International Social Work for Peace
Rationale and Purpose of ProjectRationale and Purpose of Project

Why has this network been set up?

There is limited research on social work education in societies experiencing political conflict or making the transition to post-conflict situations. Some small-scale local studies on social workers working in such contexts have been published

The network seeks to facilitate a dynamic and supportive exchange of information about:

  • How political conflict is addressed in social work curricula,
  • What philosophical, educational and ethical issues arise in providing education on this subject
  • What social work skills are taught to enable social workers to work with clients and with each other in conflict situations both in college and in the practicum.
  • What support and development opportunities social workers need for practice in such contexts

Who can participate in the network?

Social work academics, social work students, practice educators, service users, and other interested parties are all encouraged to contribute to this network.

The network aims to provide a supportive community, united in obligations to pursue social justice and social development, in which colleagues critically reflect on their practice in relation to events taking place throughout the world, identifying their relevance to social work and education.
